Bill had successful Brain Surgery
On October 1st 2007 Bill woke up with "the worse headache I've ever had", his vision wss blurred, and his right side was numb. Marilyn whisked him off to the emergency room where they said: "You didn't have a stroke and you didn't have a heart attack."
BUT - don't you always hate it when the doctors say BUT?
Bill's sister Alice flew in from Dallas and his Brother Jerry came in from North Carolina. These two came so far to be with their "little brother Bill." Jerry was there to help Marilyn and Bill as they sat and sat and waited and waited for test after test and doctor after doctor. Alice - being wise - arrived just in time to see Bill right after he had woken up from the Brain Surgery.
Barry and Carolyn Bledsoe took time off work and drove from Ohio just to be with Bill and Marilyn during the day before the surgery, during the surgery, and stayed until Bill had recovered and gotten his strength back. Family support means so very much when one faces life's dangers and also when we face life's joys.
Fred and Sandra Peters came down from Sedaila Missouri to be with Bill and Marilyn prior to and during Bill's surgery and quick recovery. She was surrounded with family and loved so much during this time. Bill will never forget that Fred and Sandra were there for him.
The day before his brain surgery, Bill had "central line" put in his chest and strange green dots put on his head to help guide the MRI scans and the surgons hands.
Marilyn was able to be with Bill as he was put to sleep for the brain surgery. With the faith we both have the surgery was still very scary.
Just a few moments after Brain Surgery Marilyn and other family members were able to visit Bill. The doctor said' "Everything went very well - we got all of the tumor, Bill handled the surgery well, and there is no evidence of cancer."
Marilyn had the good luck to get a great birthday present. OK so she got a really neat ice cream cake, but she also got to take Bill out of the hospital and settle into the hotel room for a few days of rest and recovery.
We are so pleased. He left the hospital 25 hours after the brain surgery. We had to stay in a nearby hotel for a few days in case complications occurred. Less than a week after the surgery we are back home in Bella Vista.
Ten days after brain surgery Bill is giving a introductory talk at the Bella Vista Missouri Club.
Medical sciences is awsome.
Praise the Lord.
Bill had a large Pitituary Tumor - see below for more information:
Skull Base Surgery Center
Only within the past few years have patients with extensive lesions and tumors of the brain and cranial base had the opportunity of having these growths surgically removed. In this decade, many of these skull base lesions and tumors were still considered completely inoperable. With advances in diagnostic imaging tools, breakthroughs in anesthesiology, and refined surgical techniques, today these patients and their families have hope where once there was only the dark prospect of lingering illness and death.
In 1993, a new program was established within the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, the Center for Skull Base Surgery was formed. Under the direction of world-renowned neurosurgeon Ossama Al-Mefty, M.D., the Center for Skull Base Surgery is a resource for the people of Arkansas and has drawn patients regionally, nationally and internationally. The UAMS Center for Skull Base Surgery uses a multi-disciplinary approach to evaluate, treat and care for patients who have skull base lesions. The goal of the Center is to combine contemporary medical and surgical techniques with compassionate care for patients.
