Walking in the Elk Capital of Arkansas

Arkansas Highway 7 is recognized as one of the ten most scenic byways in the United States. Quite a claim when one of the other ten is California highway 1 along the coastline.

We were not disappointed. On the way to the Elk Capital of Arkansas we pause at the "Rotary ANN" rest stop. This is was the first rest stop in Arkansas. As Rotary Club leders drove through Arkansas their wives asked that a rest stop be built here. As with all great suggestions of wives it was built.

We found a motorcycle couple who gladly took our picture.

We had read about the Cliff House and thought why not? Well known actors, singers and others stop here for food and to rest on the the way to Branson Missiour. The room was $60 per night the food was reported to be wonderful and the view - well you choose the best adjectives.

After leaving the Cliff House we stopped by an antique shop in Jasper Arkansas.

While we were at the Cliff House we met newlyweds. Loren and Peggy. They have been married a combined 72 years. But married to each other only six weeks. They both recently lost their spouses (a heart attack and cancer). This fine couple met in a singles group at the Baptist Church they belonged to - and the rest - the begining a new life together.

After a honeymoon cruise meeting up with Bill and Marilyn and going on a hike to Eden Falls must have been a let down. But walk together we did.

Loren looked rested - but don't let looks confuse you.

At the bottom of the falls. Too bad the water wasn't pouring out as hard as it does sometimes.

We returned to the trailhead - tired - soaked - yet we had a wonderful time. We got to see some of God's creation and meet a wonderful couple. Maybe there is something to be said for going on trips with no prior plans.

This sign ouside of our room at the Cliff House says it all.

Spectacular is the adjective I chose to describe the view from Cliff House. Happy to hear that you had such a nice time. Neat that you met a couple who are building a new life together.

I like that you wrote in first person. It made me feel like you were telling me the story directly. Cam says you are becoming quite the blogger.
