The Ice Storm came after days of rain.
When storms come we humans think first of ourselves. When we ventured out to clean off and refill the birdfeeder the Gold Finches seemed to come from everywhere. The rains end, the ice is busy breaking power lines, disrupting human life and the birds still sing!

The little trees seemed to hold up the best. The would take all they could and then just bend over for a few days. The mighty oak trees gave up limbs, and actually just tumbled over because of the heavy weight and the day after day of soaking rain.

When the trees had too much ice. Branches and sometimes trees gave up. Next year's firewood.

The trees were covered with ice. As we stood on the street we could hear limbs falling. Sometimes it was an entire tree.

The ice outside cut off all the power. No TV no computer - no blog. But boy were we happy we had a fireplace insert and we could burn log after log.

These pictures are so neat. They sure look different than the ones you posted in March with all of the pretty flowers. Glad you fared well through the power outage. Chopping all that wood last year paid off. It was heart-warming to hear how much the birds appreciate your kindness and generosity too.
